RETRACED is an interdisciplinary exhibition that traces the migration of the Takeda and Kamo families across Canada through site-specific portraits and short performance recordings. These works were created in locations tied to dancer Kate Kamo McHugh’s family history of forced removal, relocation, and rebuilding.

Documented by photographer Colin Boyd Shafer (Cosmopolis Toronto), the images and videos form a layered visual archive where body, land, and cultural memory intersect.

Kamo McHugh gratefully acknowledges support from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society (JCLS).
Caregiving support for RETRACED is supported in part by Balancing Act Canada as part of the Level UP! Initiative.
